Biographies can be boring, so here’s a short capsule biography of Caye and John. This will give you an idea of who they are, and if you’re interested, you can go to a more detailed version.
JOHN FRANCIS
John was born in 1939 in western Canada where he went to school. He was a journalist for 13years in Canada and southern Africa, and later in the U.S. He took up video full time the late 1970s and became a video producer at the University of Idaho and then Washington State University. He has a BA (U. of Alberta ’61) and an MJ in Video Production (UCLA ’69). He retired and moved to Portland in 2001 where he met and married Caye Poe. He has taught filmmaking and video production in Africa and at the University of Idaho, and Englis as well as video at a private school in India for six months.
CAYE POE
Caye was born and raised in Yamhill County, Oregon, less than ten miles from where she now lives. She learned some uncommon skills. She became a talented motorcycle racer, a ski instructor at Mt. Hood, and a certified scuba diver. She also raised a son (now in California) and a daughter (Bend, Oregon), and has two grown granddaughters who live nearby.
She left high school half way through her sophomore year, but ten years later passed her GED. Then, while holding down a full time job, she earned a BSc from Linfield College in nearby McMinnville and an MBA from George Fox University in her hometown of Newberg, OR. She worked for thirty years at a large newsprint mill in Newberg and ended up as the purchasing manager. She retired in 2004, and she and John have been busier than they anticipated, with traveling, teaching, mediation, and civic activities.
