We lived in Madagascar May and June, 2012, mostly teaching at a Canadian-funded school in a rural area of rice fields and scattered villages.Caye taught sewing to young women  and John gathered video footage that can be used for fundraising back in Eastern Canada, where most of the school’s support  comes from. We both taught English to some of the 280 young pupils.

We came away with mixed feelings. The people were warm and hardworking. But the country is poverty-stricken. The area we were in is badly deforested and the roads are in disrepair.

(Note: although the country is called Madagascar, the people and the language are called Malagasy.)
