We travelled to Alaska via ferry in the summer of 2008 with just backpacks. We journeyed from Bellingham up to the end of the line, Skagway, then worked our way back down via Petersberg, Wrangle, and Ketchikan. We didn’t take a car and found we could get around the towns easily.
