The most famous tribal  group in East Africa are the Maasai, who traditionally occupy a large part of central Tanzania and Kenya. The Maasai are traditionally pastoral nomads who raise large herds of cattle and sheep. Maasai lands have been drought-stricken for some years, and many of the Maasai have taken up farming or moved to cities.  Many of the people we befriended in Tanzania, including the people who run Your Sisters Orphanage, are Maasai.
